APRIL QUARTERLY MEETING
50th Anniversary Celebration
of the Raytown Historical Society
In the spring of 1965, six Raytown ladies met to discuss their desire for a local historical society. The Six; Christine Heath, Roberta Bonnewitz, Merle Glover, Bonnie Poertner, Millie Lambrecht, and Barbara Lanspa, attended several organizational meetings before presenting a plan to other community leaders.
On March 23, 1966, the Raytown Historical Society was chartered under the sponsorship of the Raytown Chamber of Commerce with about 50 charter members.
In 1981, the Historical Society purchased Raytown Fire Station No. 1, built in 1944. Construction of the Museum was begun in 1982 and finished in October of that year. Exhibit areas were added in the next several years. Members then built an addition to the Museum in 1991.
