Event Description:
RAYTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROGRAM

In the 1920’ and 30’s states were investing in building highways to connect large cities to each other; one such highway was US 40 Highway between Kansas City and St. Louis, MO. Today we know this highway as 47th street since the construction of a the new 40 Highway took its place.

A slide presentation will take an imaginary journey beginning at 47th & Raytown Trafficway and terminating at the Eastlands on 40 Highway & 291 Highway. The early sites along the route will be identified and expanded upon by Charlotte Belger, archivist for the museum. Some of the sites are well known and remain to this day; some are very much a surprise to most.

The program will be held at the Raytown Historical Museum, 9705 E 63rd St. at 10:00AM, Monday, August 1st.
